Hi - my name is Gabriel Desjardins, and Behindthenet is
my website devoted to advanced hockey analysis. I've worked as a
statistical analyst and writer for Protrade.com,
where I focused primarily on baseball, with some minimal forays into
basketball and football. You can find my work on
ESPN.com,
Protrade,
MLB.com,
CNNSI,
Rotowire and
Puck Prospectus and in print in
The Globe and Mail and The Wall Street Journal.
Hockey has always been my favorite sport, so
I've put my time into improving hockey analysis. Between the Behindthenet Blog
and the advanced statistics (available on the sidebar), I hope that hockey fans
can get a glimpse at some of the new information we can learn from the NHL's
live feed.
I attended Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario and have a graduate degree from the University of California - Berkeley.
I grew up playing hockey in Winnipeg, Manitoba and currently reside in the hockey hotbed of Northern California.
I owe a debt of gratitude to Roland Beech of 82 Games, who
has always had a lot of great suggestions for how to set up this site. The original idea of
analyzing the NHL live game feed came from discussions with Roland and Jeff Ma of
Protrade.com.
